Introduction and Index

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to Pray" - Luke 11 v 1

Jesus said, "God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. - John 3 v 16

When we were still helpless, Christ died for the wicked at the time that God chose. It is a difficult thing for someone to die for a righteous person. It may even be that someone might dare to die for a good person. But God has shown us how much he loves us - it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us! By his death we are now put right with God; how much more then will we now be saved by him from God's anger! We were God's enemies, but he made us his friends through the death of his Son. Now we are God's friends, how much more will we be saved by Christ's life! But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God's friend. - Romans 5 v 6 - 12

Lord, teach me to pray. I do want to talk to you so please help me. You are so great and I so small. Dare I believe that you care about me at all - that you love me?

Lord Jesus, I can't understand why you should love any of us here on earth, least of all me. In fact, if you had not said this was so, and said it so emphatically, I would have thought the very idea nonsense. Did you really love us so much that you left heaven and came to earth to die? Did you really die so that we might be forgiven? Do you go on loving us, whether we pay any attention to you or not?

It seems beyond belief! Especially that bit about "while we were still sinners Christ died for us." Yet, with hesitating faith, I do believe. Please make my belief stronger. Please make me one of your friends. Pease teach me how to talk to you, and how to hear you talking to me.
